LAGUNA WOODS — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL REPORT. Laguna Woods released a draft set of objective design standards for commercial development in summer 2026, intended to guide future construction and renovations.
What the standards address
The city says they cover commercial building height, façade design, access, lighting, parking, landscaping, materials and safe pedestrian and bicycle connections.
A proposal is not an active construction permit
The announcement explains that the standards are designed to affect future projects, and no particular shopping center or restaurant redevelopment was proposed by the act of releasing the draft.
How businesses can respond
Owners and designers may ask Planning staff about the current adoption status and application requirements before spending money on drawings. The Planning Division lists planning@lagunawoods.gov and 949-639-0561.
